Kwara to Use N2Billion to Renovate 47-Year Sports Hall

The Kwara State Government is set to renovate the covered sports hall at the National Stadium for N2.06 billion into a state-of-the-art sports facility.

The sports pavilion was built in 1977 under the administration of Brigadier General Agbazik Innih (retd).

Speaking to sports journalists in Ilorin on Wednesday, the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Bola Magaji, said the previous administrations in the state had neglected the covered sports hall, adding that this had led to its deterioration.

Magaji, who said Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq is determined to restore the pride of the stadium, added that the renovation of the covered sports hall will be completed in 12 months.

Some of our athletes have even been attacked by reptiles as a result of poor care. However, after the complete renovation, the gym will be much better than before.

There will be many new features; It will be a tourist center with the holding of local and international tournaments. will take place here.

“There will be an increase in sales among stadium shops and offices, while hotels in and around the capital will have better protection as athletes will be closer to the state when sporting events are held at the venue.”

Magaji added that the state government’s objective in developing the sport was to take the youth off the streets and make them better citizens.

The objective is not financial gain or reward, but to prevent young people from drug use and vandalism, thereby enhancing their usefulness to the State and themselves.
